Black-ownedIndividual
Melissa “Mel” Morgan is a creative strategist, community builder, organizer, and social impact leader whose work connects communications, culture, racial justice, community engagement, and collective power building. For more than two decades, Mel has worked across Southern California with nonprofits, public agencies, schools, grassroots organizations, and community leaders to turn ideas into action. Her experience spans strategic communications, graphic design and branding, nonprofit leadership, fundraising and philanthropy, community organizing, facilitation, youth development, racial equity, public education, and leadership development. Whether she is building a campaign, developing a new community initiative, facilitating a difficult conversation, designing a communications strategy, or bringing people together around a shared vision, Mel approaches the work as both a creative and a problem solver. Mel is the founder of VERB Community and VERB WORX, where she brings together her passions for creativity, connection, community building, and social change. She is also the founder of All Things Black, a community resource created to uplift, connect, and strengthen Black community; a co-founder of the Black Wellness Collaborative (B-Well Collab), which centers Black wellness, healing, and community care; a member of Common Threads Group; and Lead Organizational Strategy & Growth Consultant for BLM Grassroots Long Beach. Across these spaces, her work is rooted in strengthening Black communities, developing community leadership, advancing racial and economic justice, supporting healing and wellness, and creating opportunities for people to build relationships, share resources, organize, create, and imagine what is possible together. Throughout her career, Mel has helped launch campaigns and programs, secure funding for community initiatives, strengthen nonprofit organizations, develop partnerships and coalitions, and create opportunities for people whose voices are too often overlooked in traditional institutions and decision-making spaces. She is particularly drawn to work that connects creativity with action and helps communities move from ideas and conversations toward tangible change. At her core, Mel is a mom, a creative, a connector, and someone who believes deeply in people. She believes meaningful change happens when communities have the relationships, resources, tools, courage, and collective power to shape their own futures. Her work is grounded in a simple idea: we don't have to wait for someone else to build the communities we deserve. We can build them together.
